    Howdy from W. MI.

First advice...tell us more about your Jeep. What year? Do you want discs front and rear?

    Hi from the UK.

I had mine done (73) and it was nightmare. not the couple of hours scenario that the vendors promised. Included grinding the steering knuckle, having the axle diameter reduced to fit inside the discs, the calipers were labelled left/right incorrectly, etc etc.

End result looks good, but don't expect to be done in an afternoon...

There is a write-up on this in the Early CJ Tech section. Check that out first and we can go from there. HTH

The writeup covers early (D25/D27) front axles. Since this thread was posted in the intermediate section I'm guessing he has a D30 with drums and wants to switch that to discs.

But until we confirm the Jeep and axle....

My mechanic does D30 disc brake swaps all the time by just swapping a lock to lock D30 w/discs. After a thorough road test, he decides whether a proportioning valve is really needed (much depends on tire size)).

Looking to change the front brakes, have stock m30 axles want to know the cheapest way to go. It is on a 1974 CJ5, don't have a lot of money to spend, I am not scared of work, have been in the mechanical field for ten years on diesel engines and automotive before that, need the best way to do this with very little money
