    Hi,
I'm having trouble shifting my Dana 20 T case. It is the Commando type with the post (extension) coming out the front for the shifter. When I had the Tcase out everything looked fine and it shifted well on the bench. Its been back in for a while and when I try to shift it is like the shifter goes to the area where low range should be and there is nothing there. After driving forward and back all the while trying to shift it will finally start to engage but needs to really be slamed into gear to engage. Any ideas?

I don't think it will engage while its moving, I think it has to be at a standstill before you can engage it also try putting your trany in neutral and hold in the clutch. You might have an alignment problem keeping it from engaging.

Its automatic. No rust on the shifter arms or actuating rods.

the pin on the lever could be worn, the shift plate (fulcrum ball) retainer pin could be broken off, of just wear in the lower shift lug itself.
Have you tried the rolling slowly in forward/reverse while putting pressure on the lever?
    torque build up ??
