With the fiberglass tub do I really need to cut the hole for the big trany firewall plate or should I just cut a hole for the trany cover? Do you think cutting the hole for the firewall trany plate would compromise the strength of a fiberglass tub? Have any of you done it.

I'd cut as little as possible. The more fiberglass you leave intact, the more rigid your tub will be.

I did a fiber tub long time ago. I cut holes only as big as needed. I didn't use the large tranny plate. Only the tranny tower cover.

I'd also use a hole saw to make holes for bellhousing bolt access. The two on the top will be a pain to get at if you don't.

Of course you'll have to make some sort of cover or find some plugs for the holes. :hurrican:

My glass tub doesn't have the firewall cut. Originally it was just enough for the tower when it was on a '68 with stock tranny. I had to enlarge that considerably to fit over the T18 when I installed the tub onto my '71 (I had the T18 swapped in while the steel tub was still on the '71), but still not into the firewall...

Thanks guys from keeping from making a big mistake. Have any of you thought about just laying it over top and bolting it down with out making a big hole, just for looks.

Give it a shot. No big deal if you don't like it, bolt holes are easy to fix in 'glass :)
