    Re: Real Jeep Camper

I see it being more like a truck camper than a 5th wheel - no pivoting or hitchwork involved. Just a big truck camper with a tag axle. On a six I think you've have to extend a half-cab 20" to fill the gap between Jeep and camper in order for it to look good, and even then the bunk wouldn't come flush with the Jeep and look sorta goofy. Best on a 5, IHMO.

Wonder if you could put a 5 hardtop on the 6 and put a back seat in the extra space!

Not gonna get much of a seat in 20" of space...;) Maybe some little club-cab jump seats.

Steve, did you see in the factory parts manaul, group 35 is dedicated to the camper ?
this doesn't cover the camper, but the axle, the electric brakes, fuel filler hose extension for rear tank models, just a lot of the nuts and bolts to make the darn thing work on the Jeep.
I had never noticed that before; too bad, no pics either......

Yes, I did as a matter of fact. I too was disappointed in the lack of pics and detail. Any chance you can get Glenn interested in it? He already has the half cab.

Here is a link to the last installment of pictures. The one additional picture of the camper shows the part that connects to the windshield by way of a special bracket (not shown). I thought you guys might enjoy the other added pictures showing a '71 CJ5 under a pile of stuff and the ? just to the left of it. Yes, it has a V6. And one more little green goodie to the right in one of the pictures. Enjoy.

Here is the last installment of pictures. One shows the part on the camper where the bracket (not shown) attaches to the windshield. The others are of a '71 CJ5 that was close by but hidden under a bunch of stuff. I didn't see it the first time there. Yes, it has a V6. Also check out the ? to the left and the little green goodie in one picture.

No, the axle and wheels are there. They're just hidden by all the junk around it.

The guy that owns the Jeep Camper showed me a picture of the camper on his Jeepster today. Here's a scanned image of it. Note the half softtop. The bracing from the front of the camper is bolted to the side of the Jeepster instead of the factory setup on the CJ5 where it attaches to the side of the windshield frame. I was able to see a closeup of the later setup in the brochure he had. Thought you guys might like to see this.

It looks like the guy may have been confused. he said a jeepster, but the pics actually show a 69 cj-5 with the v-6 he prolly towed wit that and not a jeepster. i would imagine to the hardcore collector, that would be a pretty penny. did you ask if he'd sell the jeep and camper as a pair?

The CJ5 under the pile of junk is a '71 with the gas tank in back.
