I need to replace the hubs on my 73. Any ideas as to which ones to get, Superwinch,Warn , Milemarker, etc?? I currently have Superwinch hubs on it now but they are both shot.

Do the Warn internally splined hub conversion. Better then any stock type hub you will find.

Warn, Period. I've used all the different hubs over the years. I was a test bed for a local supplier for the Stainless bodied MileMarkers. If they don't break then they leak, either grease out or water in. I will only run Warns. Have had no issues with them, even in applications they are not supposed to be used in. Nickmil.

So I suppose I should trash the old Sears and Roebuck hubs on my '56? Of course, they might have been made by Warn, who knows.

Warn is the way to go.
There is a reason that the MM ones are so cheap to buy. ;)

    Ron,
I just had a profound thought. My hubs won't fit your jeep. Duh.

I was wondering about that, but I'm not really in the market yet so I let it slide. Actually trying to do some work too.

What's the axle spline count? I could use some 10 spline.

So, Nickmil, you have a lot of parts go through your hands, do you know anything about Sears lockout hubs? Like who made them, are they any good and worth keeping, etc. They really do say Sears on them! I'm pretty sure they were on there when Dad bought it in '75, but he might have put them on too because he was planning on flat towing it. I know that back then Sears was a major Jeeps parts source.

They are 27 spline. Switched to that in 1972.

The two styles that I'm aware of (have seen) are the Sears with the big knob. These are just Selectro's with Sears name cast in them. I have seen some Dual-Matics (lever or screwdriver turn type) that had a Sear's sticker on them. I've never seen another type but doesn't mean there isn't one. If you post a pic I can probably identify which ones you have. Sears normally just sold other people's stuff with their name put on. They did have quite a selection available. Somewhere I've got a '70's Jeep accessories catalog that was pretty amazing what you could get. Anything from replacement body parts to complete engines. Nickmil.

Slightly OT, I have MontgomeryWard catalogs from the 60s/70s with the same stuff Nick.

Yeah, pretty amazing all the companies who carried Jeep parts back then. Fortunately we're getting more and more like it was back then so parts are much more available. Nickmil.

for comparison, here's some pics of the Sears hubs I have
I might add these guys are very heavy
each one weighs in at just over 5 lbs !
dial movement for engage/disengage very limited
as indicated, between 2 bolt holes
the wording is cast into the dial
I don't know who's brand these really are
10 spline, 1971 and prior Jeeps

Just curious, Were the screw driver type you are talking about the ones that used 2 screwheads on each hub that you had to turn. That was the kind that I had on my 62 CJ5 in the late 60's/early 70's. I have never seen any like it since and always wondered who made them.
