Points roughly straight across the engine bay toward the passenger side @ TDC.

It can be any one of 3. There should be one on either side of the power plug. You can use every other one starting from the one just ccw from the power plug. But most I've seen use the first one ccw of the power plug.

A really nice feature of the Mallory dual point is the fact that it actually has a number 1 tower and its marked when you by the cap, it makes it much easier to time the motor if the distributor is removed.

My HEI has a cap that snaps over the plug wires on the top of the cap to hold 'em down, they're numbered on there. Not sure if it matches how I have 'em put on now though or not.

You mean can the Jeep Dauntless 225 accept the later GM HEI???

    Yes.

But there are a few tricks to it.

    First, be sure it's an odd-fire HEI, from a '75, 76 or earlyy 77 Buick 231.

The distributor head and cap is way bigger than the stock 225 unit. You will need to remove a manifold bolt in the corner where the distributor will hit it. Maybe a button-head bolt will be enough, maybe you'll need to grind a little on the casting before installing a button head bolt... it has to be low enough for the dist to seat properly.
After that, it's like any other distributor.

I've been running a Pertronix module in my Delco points-style distributor for 10 yrs without problem, until recently. I may be installing HEI soon.
