OK, maybe this spans several forums, but here is my question. I have a 6/26 Dana 18 T-case in my truck. I also have a 6/29 D-18 T-case on my garage floor. (you can probably see where this is going) I can't think of any, but is there some reason I can't change these two out for each other? The truck has no Parking brake, and the other one does. They are both twin stick, and both have the large yokes on the front output, not that changing that would be a big deal. shifter handles both stick out the same amount. I guess my only real concern is the bearing retainer on the transmission side.
Oh yeah, the reason for all of this useless labor is so I can use the 6/29 OD that is currently bolted in my flatty, on the truck. Won't be driving the flatty much this winter and that will give me more time to find another O/D for the truck. Your thoughts?
    Thanks

I'll let you know in a few hours hopefully;)
Taking the 6/29 D18 out of wimpy right now. Planning on putting the 6/26 in wimpy I just rebuilt. Just need another socket to take the nut off the output gear on the trans. Think the one on the 26 tooth had a 1 1/4" nut and the one in wimpy right now has a 1 5/16" nut.

Yes - they swap without an issue. I do it all the time as I have about a 50/50 mix.

For the OD - for under a couple hundred (high estimate - can not meber for sure) get ahold of Herm and have him get you the other bowel gear and press the bearings on for you. It's a simple bowel gear swap to put the OD from one Tcase to the other. I did it this summer to get me a little more flexability on what I ran my OD's on at the time.

I did exactly that with my jeep Brannon, it's a snap. My '48 drivetrain was a 6/26 and I bought a 6/29 from a wagon to swap in. You will have to swpa the tail housings over as you mentioned, but other than that it is a piece of cake. I would take the time to swap over your speedo driven gear so that the speedometer stays correct, and take the time to clean up the threads on the speedo connection whil you have the e-brake off it. It is darned near inpossible to get to this after the backing plate is back on. Oh, and be sure to get the rear output shaft surgically clean with a solvent and load the splines up with copper RTV. I found out the hard way (after 3 different seals) that my leak was coming down the output shaft, and NOT from a bad seal! Good luck!

Thanks for the info gents. I figured as much. Actually I plan on buying another OD, but would rather use the funds on hand to do other stuff right now.
