I've got a strong odor of gas eminating from my Jeep but don't see any signs of a leak that I can tell. It runs and hasn't blown up and I'm stumped as to where this is coming from. The gas cap gasket is definitly shot - could that cause an odor that could be smelt from 10 feet away? :?

    Thanks for any insight.

Yes - Gasoline is an aromatic liquid, and will vaporize and expand whenever warmed. The most likely culprets on your Jeep for the "gas smell" (if you don't have an out-and-out leak) are an unsealed gas cap, and a too-high carb float level. If you can smell gas from 10 feet away, you have something that needs fixing. Don't park it in a garage, and don't smoke near it, until you fix the problem!

I have the same problem, but I smell the gas under heavy exceleration or when the engine is hot. I have not been able to figure it out. If you resolve your issue please post the fix.

this is just from personal exp: i had a pin hole leak in my under seat tank and had the same smell problem. i checked all my lines, carb, leaks, etc but found no answer. i decided to check my tank and when i pulled it i found the small leak. the leak was so small that the gas was evaporating before it could seap out from under the tank but it smelled strong. I am going to relocate under the seat tank. Hopefully I won't smell the gas anymore and won't have to keep investigaing and have more time for :stout:

    Thanks for the info.
