You could always throw it into the oven afterwards to dry it off. Heck throw some lard on the case and season the cast iron R)

Rent a pressure washer at Lowe's for a day and soak it with Simple green. Don't let anybody take pics of you doing though so we don't have to see them later on the forum!! LOLR)

Purple Power, Simple green or anything like that. Then use a pressure washer. Works like a charm ;)

Can't believe no one's said "take it to the car wash...spray it down with engine degreaser or even spray it with gunk or whatever and just hose it off".

Don't worry about the car wash and the environment...there's an oil/water separator in there designed to catch these oils and greases before the water goes into the sanitary sewer.

Throw it on a trailer and get after it @ the car wash.

Oven cleaner spray is good for caked on stuff. Stinks to high heaven though.

Use goggles and rubber gloves, please. Oven cleaner is primarily lye.

    You could use gas.

Timmy we will need pics if you get dirty. R)
And NO rear shots please. :D

Kerosene/Diesel (same thing) is water soluable and washes off easily. Not environmentally acceptable but it works.

I have tried lots of stuff and the Greased Lightning is really good. I think I like it better than kerosene. The other day I cleaned the inside of a timing cover and that baked-on brown oil film just washed away.

A friend told me the other day that the scrubbing bubbles bathroom cleaner works good too. I would be hard pressed to find anything better or cheaper than Greased Lightning. I tried the Simple Green several years ago and wasn't impressed.

The car wash is a good idea. I've done that several times for big stuff. They have the hot soapy water to wash the cleaner off with, so you don't have to clean your driveway when you are done.

I buy my Greased Lightning at Dollar General Stores its 3 bucks a bottle.

Gee that's starting to sound like a commercial for Greased Lightning.

My son has a hot tank at the shop where he works, and I would rather use the Greased Lightning and a pressure washer than to take the stuff to him and get it tanked for free.

Now if I was in the right part of the country I might accept an invitation for free parts cleaning.

    Happy cleaning,

    Jim

My approach, with very greasey parts, is to use my sears portable sand blaster. Instead of black diamond blasting media I use walnut shells from Eastwood. No mess. Use a tarp, vacum up the walnut shells and put'm in the trash and it's fun!
