Finally have a couple of pics of full scale layout of rollcage after Dennis (speedbuggy) was kind enough to send bows from Tigertop. I haven't made a layout yet of the crossbars that will tie everything together, but I have what's needed to take to bender for the primary structure. :)
Now - imagine nice looking cage installed! R)
    More to come later.

I'm assuming the line with all the bends in it is the front? Just an FYI the more bends you have he weaker the cage. you may want to see if you can take a few out and make a slightly differant design. Very nice layout work, keep up the good work.

Nice approach to designing it! Did you use some stiff wire to transfer to the plywood? I'll have to remember that when I finally buy/make a tubing bender.

BTW, you gonna fix those bullet holes? ;)

O.B. - I don't think you can see the pencil lines, but I took measurements and drew the body structure, windshield, seats, gas tank before laying out the front and back bars that run parallel to the sides. The smaller hoop was just placed there for convienence using measurements. I'm allowing 1/2" (min) clearance between cage and body - usually more.
The bullet holes will get fixed as soon as I can find some Bondo and paint decals.

The bar with the most bends is in the front. I realize this is the weak point in the cage  , but I wanted that extra entry space. I will gusset and crossbrace everywhere I can.

Understand about keeping as much room as possible in a CJ-5. More then likely it will be fine and you won't have a problem. It was just an observation. For extra strength you could make some brackets that would attach the bar to the dash board were it attaches to the cowl. The cowl is the strongest part of the body and this wouldn't affect leg room at all. Looks good, keep us posted.

X2, I was just going to suggest the same thing. It's frees up tons of leg room and looks good as well. There are some examples of what we are talking about on the jpoffroad.com site.

Thanks for the link. I see what you're talking about now. Good idea - I'll incorporate some shear plates (?) on the dash like the ones shown. Thanks for the suggestion. :) :)

Looking really good! I appreciate the visual simplicity of the 'cage -- it won't draw attention away from the Jeep.
