Originally there was a piece of web-like material, similar to the welting on the top of the grill shell, only wider. It was impregnated with some type of waterproffing material, just like military canvas was. You could use a piece of a military web belt, or mebbe contact Walck's, WeeBee Webbing or Beachwood canvas for the real deal.

I cut a piece of 3/32" sheet rubber to fit. Bought it at my local Ace hardware.

    Strange jeep staff:
After i finished my restoration (mainly it was body work) a small space formed between the clamp and the column ! the space is about 1/4 inch.
There wasnt any change in the dash, steering box, body mounts, nothing !!!
    It works o.k but...
    Any ideas ?
