Hey guys, it's time to bail me out again.

The wife ordered me some new shackles from 4wd.com Upon measuring the distance between them, I find that there is roughly 2 inches. The shackles that are on the Jeep currently have approx. 1.75 inches between. However, the current shackles have no center brace like the new ones. Did they send the incorrect shackles, or is this how they are supposed to be??? This is on a '75 Cj5

    Thanks

I just ordered some myself, from a different source, that are also 2" with the center brace. I was told that they work best with a "flanged" bushing. I suppose a washer could be used also to make up the 1/8" on each side. From what I've researched, I think the aftermarket shackles run about 2".

Sounds like you got the wrong shackles. The split is '75 - earlier Jeeps have 1.75" springs, '76 and up have springs that are 2" wide. Browsing through eBay there are a bunch of shackles, and most of them are either '55-'75 or '76-'86.

JMHO, but I wouldn't run wider shackles with spacers.

I have aftermarket shackles on my CJ6. They were installed by the PO, but you can see they are the correct width:

I think instead of sending them back I might just grind or cut a 1/4 inch off of the center brace. That would seem to be easier than sending them back.

    Thanks

I think the 2" wide shackles are set up for polyurethane bushings which have flanges on them.

I got an e mail back from 4wd.com and the tech said they were correct and to grind a bit off to make them work. I'm not doing anything till I order my new lift sometime here soon. I need to sell some stuff first to finance it. I've got my top for sale on ebay, but no takers yet. It's a Meyers top that needs some work if anyone is interested.

    Thanks for the replies,
