As some of you know, I have a 75 CJ5. I would like to replace the hood and windshield hinges, as well as the mirrors. I'm having a tough time finding these parts for my year, but these same parts for 76 and later CJ's seem to be readily available. My question is..will the mirrors, hood and windshield hinges from a 76 or later CJ bolt right onto my 75 or will I have to modify them first?

I have been having the same problems. The hood hinges from the 76 and up should work. The windsheild hinges for the 75s have proven to be pretty hard to find. The windshield hinges from the 76 and newer do not bolt right on. Whether the windshield frame can be modified i don't know...never looked into it. My advice to you is check in the local boneyards, ebay, and on this forum.

Just missed a pair on ebay for $45. Needed paint. '75 and prior will not fit '76 and later due to windshield frame changes. The upper frame is 3" narrower at the top on '76 and later.

I have a 79 CJ5 and I'm looking for a hardtop and doors... they are impossible to find for my model, so I was thinking about changing my windshield to the 75 and below model... but I wasn't sure if it would work either...this post was helpful to me...thanks.

    Amber,
you are going to find that early 5 hardtops are harder to find and more expensive than late model ones. Just be patient, I see them all the time on Ebay. Plus, you should be able to find a fiberglass one that will never rust.
