Back in November I went Stump crawling (I dont have rocks) around home one evening. I was climbing up a stump while half in a skeeter rut and noticed my driver side tire stop spining. I admit it was ALOT of pressure on that tire (like 70% of the wieght of the jeep). When I got home I jacked the back of the jeep up and every thing seemed normal. I havnt really put the jeep in a hard bind since but I havnt saw any thing abnormal since then . So I figure it had to much of a load and kicked out that day. Im wondering if I should strip it down and make sure its ok for next year as part as my yearly go over.

A Lock-Rite doesn't kick out..... if it stopped spinning a tire, something broke or stripped...sounds like you spun an axle

Should have kept both wheel spinning. Only random thing I can think of is if you were turning and it was unlocking. If not you might wanna open it up and check to make sure none of the little pins in it broke.

Yeah you can buy a rebuild kit. It runs about 10-15 bucks. Comes with the pins and springs.

When the edges of the coupler dogs get worn it will not stay engaged and make an grinding sound. AMHIK. It happened in our Xj 8.25" axle. Still have the couplers here's some pics- When I set this lockright up it was on the "highside" of their tolerances. I didn't have new side gear washers to swap out to get on the lowside side of the limit. Also this was bought used off ebay for $50 but worked good for almost a year.

Note damage on edges of the teeth.
