    Hi,
I have added 12" to the rear frame on my CJ5. I spent this evening making some temporary shackles and figuring out the new location for the spring pivot bracket. Below are a couple of pics of what I ended up with this evening. Not sure if this is going to work. Pinion angle looks good but the springs look kinda strange. Should the spring pivot bracket be lowered so the spring eye locations sit more level front to rear? Any suggestions???

If it were me I'd lower it to where it was when it was in its stock location. But thats just me and I have no real info on why that would be better or not. It just looks right that way I guess. I could probably look up some ground vehicle dynamics info for leaf springs, but I doubt the change would matter much with leaf springs.

I'd also move it back more to get a better shackle angle, but thats just a guess at this point as there is no weight to compress the spring

    Ghetto,
I agree it doesn't look right where it sits now. I am thinking of using some 2x4 tube and cutting it to fit the contour of the frame and then mounting the pivot to the bottom of that. This would allow the pivot to be mounted closer to the stock location. As far a shackle angle goes it is currently set to 90 at full droop. I am planning to mount the wheels and tires and jacking up the frame higher to allow the weight to pull the axle down as far as possible and then set the pivot location to get 90 at full droop and then see where the shackle sits when the weight is back on it.

currently researching this on Pirate and it appears 90 at full droop is a good place to start.

    Yup, sounds good.

I guess my point was that I don't know if you'll gain anything except an inch of height or so by dropping the mount down.

I think you'll be fine either way.:)

I may have missed something, What is your idea for adding 12'' to your frame? I want to see the finished product.
