I know i am not the only person with a worn out bottom bushing on the intermediate steering column. What fixes has people done to make the shaft not have play in it? goto a bearing? or make a bushing?

Dan, I used UHMW plastic. Not as tight as I would like, but drivable at highway speeds

    David,
Yup i see those bushings also, but it is for the later steering column. The GM style. A few years back i saw an intermediate NOS one, but didnt get it, no i wish i had. I wonder if maybe we can get the correct dimensions and maybe see if somebody could machine out of plastic for us.

I have a plastic one in SSDutch, and have been talking with McRuff about getting a brass one made up to fit.

I used a brass one like Mike is talking about in the 58. Just went to a macjine supply locally and bought a piece of bearing bronze stock that was right dia.inside and out, drilled it for a zert after I put it up in the column tube. Worked well until I put the saginaw column in it.

I have used a bushing from a evap cooler on 2 jeep builds. They are cheap and you can oil them with the supplied spring cap. Works great.
I will see if i can get a picture.
