    On a related note,
Is the main body of the points distributor the same as the HEI? In other words, could you make an HEI out of a points distributor by changing the cap, rotor, pickup and other small parts?

Guess I took it to mean, "Can you go to the parts store and buy an HEI cap, coil and wires and make a points distributor HEI?"...

The guy in the article says he uses all FLAPS stuff... but there must be some tricks to it, or there would be many of us doing it.
Sure would like to get one of those units and do some reverse engineering... :D

Yeh, I've never seen or heard of it being done before that page. Wish there were some more detail.

The trick Lynn is to not use a true GM HEI. You have to remember that GM is the only company that made a whole new design to run there electronic ignition, Chrylsers electronic (they inveneted it) igniton used the same distributor body as the old pointed unit. You're not getting a true HEI only a good electronic unit in the smaller Delco body by probably suing a mix and match of Ford and Chrysler parts!!;)

Oh and that page has been on the net for at least 5 years or maybe more!!
