    Right now I've got:

    Starter solenoid --> "ST" on key switch
    +coil --> ballast--> "IGN" on key switch

    Turned the key, no spark. Hooked up a jumper wire from +coil --> +batt and it fired right up. :?

    Hokayyy, I gather that there should be pwr to the +coil. But from where? Starter solenoid "start" post? Direct pwr source like ALT? OR Plug ballast into "ON" instead of "IGN"? Other idear?
    The FSM & Painless' instructions are right here in front of me...can't seem to solve this. Thanks! :beer:

    Not a expert on this, but the orig. switch had only 4 post, bat., st., on, and aux. The ballast was connected to the "on". This is the same post that the instument cluster regulator and back up light sw. is connected to. Sense you have a "ign." post it sounds like you have a newer 5 pole sw. On some of these type of sw's., you hooked the coil up to the ign. post because it was hot in both the key postions of run and start and the "on" post was not hot in the start key postion. So if this is the type of sw. you have, it should work. Is the switch bad? If you hook it up to the "on" post, make sure its hot when the sw. is in the start postion.
    Gook luck :beer:

    The 2 orig switches I have in a parts box here both have "ST", "BAT", "ACC", and "IGN". They're from a '66 & '64. Perhaps 'aux' equates to 'ACC'? ...and 'on' to 'IGN'? :?

    The aftermarket switch I'm using for this project actually has 11 posts: 4 AUX, 4 ON, an IGN, ST, and BAT. It's an aftermarket dealio from 4WD.com:

    Perhaps the switch IS bad at the "IGN". The test light didn't come on on any position in the key sweep. OR perhaps the makers of this switch knew that the pwr to the coil would come from some other source???

    MOP has the same switch...hopefully he'll chime in. Mike, you out there? :)

    Alan: You got HEI on that?? Remember, the HEI needs to go directly to the Battery ot other "direct" 12 volt source. gpomg thru the ballast resistor will cause all kinds of problems.

    Just a thought.

    Anyone else?

    Will
    +coil --> b.r. --> "ON"
    lead to premature death of the b.r.?

    Alan, You do have a positive source from the battery? RIGHT? should be the one that goes +battery -->alt -->switch. Should be labeled something like + or batt.

    Didn't mention it above so just asking;)

    Brian, yes the pwr source is going to the switch. But the IGN post must be broken because it isn't 'hot' in any position. Need input on a safe alternative post.

    Mike I have that pic, but isn't helping solve this prob.

    Will ballast --> "ON" lead to premature death of the b.r. by having juice flowing thru it all the time? Anyone anyone, Bueller?
