Spicer 18 rebuild

    I am about to finish pulling off my t-case and then I plan on trying to rebuild it myself. I have never done this before but it doesn't seem that difficult. I'm going to get the Novak rebuild kit because i've heard it is far superior to other kits(they use a very hard metal for the intermediate shaft). Anyone else rebuild one of these?? Is it harder than it looks? any difficult parts or special tools needed?

    Not sure if you've had the chance to peruse previous discussions on this, but Novak's intermediate shaft is second to none. You'll glean much advice & tips from doing a 'search' for past posts. Hope this helps. :beer:

    Only "special" tools you'll need is a dial indicator with magnetic base. IIRC, you can get one through Harbor Freight for like $15~$20 or so. Also called for is a 120+ ft-lb torque wrench for the yoke nut. HINT...Save your old yoke nut to get everything set right then put your new one on. You'll also need some sort of puller to get the yoke/Ebrake drum off. I used a piece of angle iron and a couple of bolts.

    Not the most difficult rebuild I've ever done... There was some confusion though, reading the diagram... I couldn't figure out where one bearing went, but after I'd put it all together, it was apparent where it went even though I swear my diagram didn't have that bearing listed in that location.

    :shrug:

    It's all good now. :)
