Fiberglass foux-paux....previous owner holed-out a fuel inlet hole in a VERY inopportune place (see black arrow in pic). I'm using a '71 gas tank, and the molded fuel inlet hose simply can't bend that much to accommodate that hole. The hole in the pic may be tough to view because of an illusion; what's behind it is the interior wall of the tub. There's NO WAY the molded inlet hose, vent hose, & that hole can co-exist. :(

What I need are ideas. One idea is to make the fuel inlet on the right-rear quarterpanel where the yellow arrow points (ala Boyink's Jeep), but I'd need to find a miracle hose w/ the right dimensions that would accommodate the bend. :?

Any other idears? I'm at a loss. :(

Yeah I thought it was close enough too...until trying to connect everything. Just won't werk. Specifically, the vent hose binds against the inner wall of the tub. Plus, the standard fill hose is molded into a shape that's not too sympathetic to P.O. hole-saw blunders.

I'll see if I can get a better pic w/ the vent hose connected to the fill hose relative to the hole.
Any tips on other hoses I could adapt/use that might be more pliable? Could I use radiator hose?

Why not go to a mufflet shop get a piece of pipe bent like you need, then to the flaps for a short piece of gas resistant hose and connect to the neck and the tank. Is it 2"?

Don't use radiator hose -- it'll swell over time as it's not rated to carry gasoline.

Look for an industrial supply kind of place that deals in hydraulics for forklifts, etc. They'll sell hose rated to carry gas. I bought what's essentially gas pump hose for the install on SSDutch. Then use plumbing elbows or whatever as needed.

Edit - another thought (if you go with the fill on the side) is to switch to a later ('78 & up) tank. Then the hose route is pretty straight, down from the fill, inbetween the body and frame into the tank. No side-to-side bends needed.

Thx Mike for the input; still not sure what you mean on using a later model tank...but I'd rather stick w/ what I have already ($$$ for another tank).

Here's a pic of what I'm dealing with:

The smaller tank tube is the vent as the larger is the fuel fill. The dang fill hose is molded to fit an exact spot on the body....a spot that I can't seem to accommodate. Looking at the Jeep from the rear, the dumb vent hose innervates to the LEFT of the upper part of the hose, and as the hole shows, there is ZERO room for anything LEFT of the fill hose as it binds w/ the inside wall of the tub, so that can't werk. Worse, that dang fill hose has a nice 1.5" hole open for said vent hose, so if I try to eliminate that vent hose I've still got to wrestle w/ plugging that booger up.

I'd rather find a fill hose that'll go straight out of the tank to the side like in later CJ models. Any hints/idears on that?

Fill hose from later model CJ? Maybe from a pick up as most trucks gas caps are on the bedside. Could even use the fuel door, etc from truck for a smoother look. I know our 1 ton dumps at werk have a super long filler hose that could be cut to length and I think they even have the second, smaller vapors hose. Ford and Dodge 1 ton dumps. Thinking.....

The later tanks have a smaller diameter and shorter inlet, makes running a hose easier:

You can see the inlet and vent still taped over:

OK - just ditch the idea of having to use a dedicated, pre-formed fill hose and seperate vent hose. Find a place like I mentioned and get some flexible rubber hose rated to carry gasoline and route it however you can/want.

Thx Mike, I read that nice writeup last month when I discovered that I was in a bind. I suppose I'll have to ask around abit at the FLAPS.
