okay guys, i finished my saginaw swap over the summer and everything is working perfectly on that front. I've got the original steering wheel and shaft in, welded to the shaft from a 70's cj and then heading into the box. the steering wheel shaft is still the hollow version, but i can't excatly run a wire through it anymore due to the clunky u-joint like contraption that came from the donor cj.

now then, i'm gonna try and pull it up to where i am now and need it to pass a va inspection regarding the "horn". would a button on the dash be acceptable or does the horn mechanism need to go through the steering wheel to pass inspection?? i'm a gonna need ideas on this one, cause it's not here for me to stare at for a couple of hours and i can't exactly picture the solution without the problem in front of me...

Chris the postal columns have a small window about 1" square near the bottom of the steering wheel, inside the window is a brass sleeve on the steering shaft that transmits the power thru from the horn button. There is a plastic cover over the 1" hole that has a wire riveted and a brass blade inside that is bent to touch the brass sleeve on the steering shaft, the wire runs down the outside of the column to the horn wiring in the harness. It is a rather simple design and you could probably duplicate it.

My horn is on the dash. In NJ I have it registered as a classic and don't have to pass a saftey inspection, just have to have insurance.

Yep it just has to be easily accessable. I don't understand why you HAVE to have a horn, I never use mine.

alrighty then, easily accessable plugs up the last hole in my dash. i'm with you jeff, i've never really used the horn on it anyway. usually i'm to busy shifting up or down to make a noise that will get their attention a whole lot quicker than a horn will, or trying to keep the rear end from swinging out... the discs bury the nose and all weight comes off the rear making for some fun situations.
