I've searched the forums but can't find the answer to my question. My wires at my alternator on my 72 CJ5 were cut and not hooked up. I found a diagram that shows there should be 2 grays, 1 green with a tracer, 1 black, and the hot wire. There is a 2 terminal plug in on the alt. The diagram I found shows all those colored wires going there but it doesnt say where. Anyone have a good schematic showing the wiring for the charging system including the wires that run to the voltage regulator?

I couldn't get my stock wiring and regulator to work so i picked up a generic ford type regulator from the local alternator shop and one of the guys there told me how to hook it up. If you don't care about it being stock i would highly recommended this route.

If your running a motorola, the grey goes to the B+ on alternator, the green goes to the field, the black to the ground next to the field, yellow goes to ignition side of starter relay.

Yes it's a Motorola regulator. I'm kinda ignorant when it comes to wiring. B+ I figured out but what the heck is the field? The tab next to it? Sorry still confused. I got the yellow figured out. Then there is 2 electrical tabs ( one is B+) and that's it. Does the black go to the terminal on the case? I had the alt tested and it puts out 14 volts. Is there a way to test the regulator? Thanx for your help.

I wish I had a picture for you, the B+ is the threaded stub next to the tabs sticking out. The black goes to the tab that is a plate, the field tab goes inside the alternator next to the ground. The 12 volt feed is the big threaded stub 1/2 inch nut. There should be 2 other stubs on the alternator just ignore them. I have a few crowns in me right nowR),so if I confused you let me know and I'll give you my number and we'll walk through this.
