Front Wheel Bearing Nut Kit

Discussion in 'Early CJ5 and CJ6 Tech' started by vanguard, Mar 28, 2006.

  1. A rear occurence happened in the garage tonight. I actually was working on the Jeep. R)

Thanks go out to ljspop. I was going to use me original hubs, but I found a damaged race. Luckily, I had kept the hubs from Bob's original Dana 27. A little bit of simple green and I was off.

I got as far as the wheel bearing nut and the locking washers, the ones I have are the type with the set screw rather than the bendable tab. Anyways one of the set screws is toast, so I figured I'd try to source one locally tommorrow to get this project moving again. So I'm looking for a part number for the tabbed kit.

Help is of course appreciated!

I think you can get these from NAPA. Also, the 4 Wheel Drive Hardware catalog has them & good pictures so you can make sure it's what you want.

I hate to admit it but I think I took the picture from the 4WDH catalog in to NAPA.

Curious, Joel; the one with the set screws is toast? How toast is it? Mine's been toast for years; most them in fact. The face is scored bad, and the "O" ring hasn't been a "O" for as long. But, it still locks as a nut would, so I haven't ever gotten around to replacing it. What I'm suggesting is that you might not HAVE to replace it...........

  4. It's definitely salvageable, its just a PITA. I'm no longer using the lock-o-matics that the set came with so I think its time to switch. IIRC, someone suggested the standard set is a better safer solution, so I ordered up a set from Herm today. I decided since there's lots of other things to work on, I just move on to the next item on the list until they get here.

"Lots of other things to work on" ... Hoo-boy! So, I bought a second JEEP just in case I run low on lots of other things to work on.... I don't think I'll be there soon!
