Building a frame for my TJ seats.

I'm getting started building a frame for my early TJ seats. R) Since my body is fiberglass going to the seat frame opening lip on the side of the body is out. I'm planning on a single large rectangle approximately 54" wide by 21" deep.

I just put my new horizontal bandsaw to work cutting my 10" length of 1x1 heavy wall square tubing into two 55" pieces with some scrap left over. My question is should I miter the corners at the ends of the rectangle (should be pretty easy to make the cuts with the bandsaw) or do I butt joint the pieces together leaving open tubing at the ends of the frame?

I'm leaning towards the miter, but this is my first real metalworking project. Gonna finally make use of my MIG as well.

Joel - go for the miter - no holes for varmints (or rust) to nest in. :)

If you do miter the corners, be sure to build a jig so everything stays square. Simple to do and worth the effort, imo.

I've had good luck using the arrow-shaped welding magnets.

That my plan. I already have two of the larger ones and I bought 6 medium ones for a $1 each when I bought the saw at harbor freight. :D
