After getting a better look at my tub on my 72 yesterday I am thinking of just swapping on the 58 tub I have which is in much better condition. The 72 tub is definitely salvageable but will require some replacement floorpans, welding and a few other tweaks. The 58 tub I have doesn't need any work at all so I think it's a better starting point. On the 58 tub the serial # is on the tub so I would think I would just keep the title that I have for it and sell the 72 tub with the 72 title? It looks like there is a VIN plate on the dash from the 72 but is that just informational or should I include that with the 72 tub when I sell it?

Contact your DMV, they have information on this.

Kansas has all this information online.

In my county as long as I have a title that is all they care about. They don't visually inspect anything so I could have a soapbox racer with tags on it up here. I am more concerned about what makes the most sense for the parts I would sell so that someone else would be able to use the tub & title they purchased from me.

Like I said, check with the DMV to make sure, they're the ones that know and matter.

The Colorado Highway Patrol is the final authority on title issues. If you keep the titles with the tubs, you won't have any problems and it will make the 72 tub easier to sell. If a question of VIN comes up, state inspectors will know to verify the VIN plate on the firewall, I wouldn't worry about the dash tag as that's not a permanently installed ID anyway.

I've found the local CHP headquarters to be very easy to deal with, if a bit stuffy and formal. They deal with Jeep issues a lot due to their popularity, you won't throw them a curve if you want info.

Look at it as swapping a new frame under the 58, not a new tub on the 72, and it becomes easier to sort out. Essentially you're scrapping the 72 from the viewpoint of the state.
