I have a frame that I am restoring. The previous owner welded on a hitch to both sides of the frame on the outside. What is the best way to get that off without damaging the frame? Also what is the bast way to remove the rust.

Cut the weld w/ a cutting wheel or angle grinder. IMO sandblasting is the only way to go to remove rust from the frame. If you have a big enough air compressor, a sand blaster will run you less than $100 (got mine from HF for $49) or you can find a local guy to do it for not much more. Cost of enough wire wheels to do the job will be way more and you can't get to everything or get all the rust off.:v6:

I would look around and see if you can find a place that sandblasts heavy equipment, and see if they would be willing to do your frame. They usually have very large blasting units, and can be quite reasonable when it comes to blasting something as small as a jeep frame.

I have been luck enough to have access to a good sandblaster. Up until this year, about the only place in my area that did sandblasting was a tombstone place. Even the powder coating place had to get them to do their blasting. A wire brush on a grinder will take a good bit off but you wont get it all. Sandblasting is the only way to go if you want it right.
