I want one of those. I will be awaiting the spec write up on that thing. As far as steel prices, there has to be several dollars worth there. The best bet is to hang around the scrap yards because they will sell it by the pound. Or do like I do and become friends with some of the machine shop owners in your area. Alot of times they will let their buddies dig through their scrap dumpster and you would be surprised what machine shops call scrap. A few weeks ago I got 5 pieces of plate 2' x 12' x 3/8" thick, all new steel and I paid $0.00 for it along with all kinds of other steel. Some of the steel around here went up another 8% at the beginning of April and I only see it going up further in the future. As I have said before, cost of building anything is all in who you know.

I don't know, Ron. They say when you're in a business, if you charge 5 times your material cost, you'll make money, 4 times the cost if you build it for a friend, and at 3 times the cost, you'll lose money. Do you think anyone here would pay $600 for one?

Oh, I'll post the writeup. Because I know most early Jeep owners like to build their own stuff. I guess that if someone doesn't have the tools, or doesn't want to do it themselves, then I would build one for them. But from what I've seen on this forum, most guys are plenty capable of building one themselves. And I want to share my experience with them and let them know how I would improve on what I did.

That's my suggestion! Rent it out when your done with it. I think all of us could (or should) use it at one point or another.

    Nice job!

    Great job!

Just found this thread. Just in time, too, as I'm in process of removing the tub on my '67 CJ-5. Co-incidence, mine was also originally painted red, then painted tan, and of course, had the driver's side floor cut out and new metal welded in (by me 25 years ago). Now I've got more work to do, but I'm to old to want to do it from underneath.

So......were the specs on the rotisserie published? Where would I look for them.

    THANKS

The writeup has been posted. You can find it in the "Body & Exterior" division of the Early CJ5 Tech Section. My heartfelt thanks go to Sparky (the forum owner, not my dog) for his tireless effort and patience in helping me to debug the article for posting. Thanks, Sparky! ;)

Thanks for a very useful and detailed article!

I am going to build one of these, not only for my 67 Jeep project, but for the rusty old Porsche project that has been lurking in the back of my garage for about 6 years!
