Some time back, Wheelie (Dave) had mentioned that his spare tire carrier mount doubles as fluid storage, holds maybe 2 or 3 pints of his Jeep's favorite fluid... could be motor oil, gear oil, antifreeze, whatever.
Someone had asked for pics... dave wasn't able to get them at that time.
Since we just spent a couple days together on the Tioga run, he asked me to snap a couple pics and post them here for those interested... so here they are, along with a gratuitous pic of his '71 :v6: :)

In this pic note what appear to be big offroad lights on the wheelhouse on each side... these housings actually contain radio speakers! Cool idea!!

Gratuitous shot of Wheelie crossing the Tioga

You know what.. what about making some sort of tank that fits inside the wheel and rim. Kind of like the VWs had for a tool kit. Bet it would be good for a gallon or two but make it look like a hubcap, but it is removable... hhhmmm crack pipe seems to be lit now :)

This is actually a very good idea.

Drain would be the only thing I would improve on. Just add a gard on 3 sides to keep it safer on the trail. Top and rear. Tub protects front. I would hate to bump it on something and dump all that fluid.

Might consider that for the -5.:coffee:

I think the orange ratchet strap kept it from rattling around.

Yea, it's not perfect. It does rattle around. Still werking on that and, as Lynn said, that's what the strap is for. I was thinking of putting some sort of air valve on top so I could use air pressure to move the fluid to it's destination. Haven't busted the pet **** off yet but now that you mention it, it is a concern. Mostly did it just to see if i could do it. 3 pts of anything isn't that much and since vodka doesn't keep well in steel, I opted for gear oil. Enough to get by in an emergency for a diff. The wind jammer is madfe from a tonneau cover. I put a redneck rear window in to appease the 5-0 and put brass grommetts (?) around it. I tie it to the roll cage with parachute cord. Werks okay up to about 45 mph. It's really better decribed as a rain jammer rather than a wind jammer. Just temporary till I get the half cab done. Need doors and hardware for a Meyer hard top. Thanks Lynn.
