Bringing this over here from Lyns post about using a tire carrier to hold extra liquids. I remember VW beetles being equiped with a hub cap style tool box that fits in the spare tire. What about maknig eaither a hub cap style tool box or liquid holder to fit in the spare tire wheel area. It will keep it out of the way and very accessable. Maybe weld on some studs on it and thread it through the spare tire rim to mount it

Discuss :) Here is the crack pipe.

I think it would be a pretty good idea. You could probably fab something like a center cap to hold an extra quart of oil or something and mount it as mentioned through some of the extra bolt holes. I also think that if mad out of an old moon hub cap it would make a good flask for some cherry moonshine or something. Or maybe I just took too big of a hit off the pipe.:)

i think i remember in a rag somewhere, i guy took two pieces of plywood that bolted thru the rim holes to hold stuff. maybe an improvement would be to use one of those brake dustshields behind the rim, weld some allthread in the center of the bolt circle of the carrier, 1/8" aluminum disc to fit rim lip or just inside, and a nut w/ handles welded on. allthread could be drill for lock. this just off the top of my head. many more improvements can be made on this. there's my two puffs, now passing to the left.

I like the idea Dan. My thinking was to eventually incorporate a spare hub assembly onto the unit though. Some sort of bladder type deal which would be donut shaped could then work and be compressed for stowage when empty. Cough, cough, cough, exhale. I have an old off road book from the mid seventies whick has an old Land Rover, I think, that the owner made his bumpers into fluid storage tanks. He used pretty hefty square tubing front and rear and was able to keep gallons of fluid in each. That was my original inspiration only I'm not crazy about huge bumpers and I can remove my set up when not in use. Now, let me pass this on......need a light?

Unless you baffle the tank, could change the CG of the jeep at an improper time. an Air tank would be a better choice.

Just a thought. After fabrication and before the addition of your choice of liquids you may want to apply a tank sealer. Would open up more possibilities for the liquids you store there.:v6:

My first thought when I read your post was as a place to store   , but, unfortunately, I don't run tractor tires so the space is definitely not big enough for that. R) R)

Other liquids, sure, just make it easy enough to remove if you need to get at the spare tire!!!!

    Well...........

if you build your cage right you could store alot of beer there. A little CO2 and it would even stay fresh and hook a tapper inside for easy access.....

You can hace your pipe back nowR)

If I start back drinkin, I may just have to incorporate some of these beer storage ideas into my rig. I just gotta figure out how to keep it cold during the summer. Wait, what am I talking about. When I was drinkin I didn't care whether the beer was hot or cold. Cough, cough. Who want the next hit?

No problem if you have AC on yer jeep (hypothetically speaking)

Shouldnt be too tough to run copper line from the cage to the evap coil and run it from there to the tapper and you have instant cold, Just like the cold plates for a soda tapper. I think they even make one for beer. Couple spare parts from the local pup, tap into the high pressure freon and you are hooked up!

    Cold on demandR)

Oh and that CO2 tank yer totin around...........comes in handy for airing the tires back up after a hard day of drinkin.....uh wheelin.

    Dual purpose all the way.

    Cage= safety+beer storage
CO2=air tools and tire inflation+keeps the beer freash and powers the tap
AC=keeps the wife cool ont he trail+the beer too
Tapper.........well if you put it on the shift lever.........:D
