I think I already know the answer to this but I wouldn't mind some confirmation. I know you can get bump-steer if your drag link is on too severe of an upward angle from lifting your vehicle. Is the same true if the drag link is too severe an angle in the opposite direction? I.E. Pointed downward and below the tie rod?

my guess would be yes. since the angles would change the geometry as the suspension flexes. the distances between the joints would still change.

How the heck would you get an angle like that?

I have a dropped pitman arm from my old lift and when I redid my front suspension and steering box mount, I guess it all lowered and now the drag link goes at a downward angle.

Ok I have to ask, how do you have a dropped pitman arm, your 71 didn't even come with a pitman arm. Is you're steering box mounted on the frame beside the engine (stock ross) or is it a saginaw conversion. Pictures would help immensely.

Sorry for the confusion, I will get out there this afternoon with my camera. It's a saginaw conversion. I am using your mount Mike! Pics soon...

if he is by passing the bell crank to go to the saginaw, no. unless he's doing it the way my po did. (remember THAT mess?).

i assume that he is not using the "old" two piece tierod and is converting to the one piece between the pass and drivers side knuckles with the new "drag link" attaching either to the pass side tre (the way i did it) or he is using a double hole pass side knuckle. make sense?

Yep. You don't need that much of a drop. A straight arm might be not enough drop... IIRC a Cherokee (XJ) arm is a good compromise.

Looks like you don't need any drop on the pitman arm.
