    NOTHING GOES RIGHT?

I can't believe that I installed the throwout bearing inside the clutch house and tightened the bolts! I feel like such an idiot!

The fingers sucked in to the bearing until figured it was spose to go on the outside. I hope that I did not screw my clutch up. :(

Guy's- I really need some words of encouragment that I did not ruin anything.

I'm trying so hard but this Jeep is kicking my ***.

Here's a pick after I reinstalled it. Bearing goes on the ouside right?

    You did whaa?

Fingers on PP look fine. As long as the clutch disc or bolt holes aren't damaged, then you should be OK.

Don't worry about it and go grab yourself a cold one. You've earned it!

stuff like that happens... looks like there is no damage except perhaps to the ego.

as sink said. slow deep breaths. (lay off the caffeine for a bit) become one with the jeep.

you can prety well bet that each of us here has at least one similar story. i try to remember that just being out wrenching on my cj is where i want to be... even if i do find myself uttering "four letter incantations" some times.

i only had to apologize once to zed and that when i called her a son of a hummer. ( didn't really mean it)

I've been turning wrenches since I was a little kid (now 45). Used to be able to drop an m22 out of my Camaro, set it on my chest, pull the pressure plate, slap in a new clutch, and put it all back together in less than 30 min. The other day I was installing the clutch in the CJ, taking it easy, no pressure, no strain, and forgot to center the clutch before tightening down the pressure plate. Took a nice half moon bite out of the clutch plate. I've been kicking my own a** every day since.

If it appears we (as a group) know alot about these old rigs... it's simply because we've already made just about all of the mistakes that can be made!
Looks like you found one we missed ;) :D

This will become just another piece of wisdom you'll be able to pass along to a newbie in the future!

Glad you figured it out without damaging anything. :)
And seriously, thanks for your post. Chances are it will help someone in the future.

Everyone makes mistakes every now and then. Me and my buddies have turned wrenches most of our lives, but still screw up simple things every now and then. The main two are when we had a few too many   and put a clutch in backwards. On another occasion, we fought with a transmisssion for about 6 hrs one night before we realized that we were putting an automatic in where a straight shift had been. For some reason, we forgot to pull out the pilot bushing. If you have ever tried to do this, I can tell you from experience that it wont work.

Things seem to go a little better now that I have quit drinking.

Lynn- The big thing that I would like to advise is that folks slow down when doing stuff like this. I was under time constraints to get as much done and was rushing. To be honest (pls don't laugh), when I unpacked the clutch, the tb was sitting between the clutch splines in the box. Being the newb that I'am, I thought ok, that's the way Luk packed it so it must go in the same way. I should have looked in the FSM and/or check our boards to make sure. At least I realized the error and corrected it before any damage could occur.

The good part about this fiasco is that I will never, and I do repeat NEVER instal the tb inside the clutch housing while I'm alive.

Come to think of it, I hope never to install a clutch again while I'am alive. I'll just call you to do it for me.:D R) R) R)
