    Hi folks,

My brother is going to buy a tub for his '74 CJ5.
The present one is beyond saving.

We're looking for the best possible price and shipping, of course. :)

Feel free to e-mail me with suggestions and/or links.

    Thanks for any help.

    Thanks.

4WD is who we've been looking at but I thought I'd better check with the board in case there was possibly someone else who might be cheaper.
    You never know! :)

Are you going with steel or Fiber? For fiber the choice is a no-brainer, 4WD, I have bought one and it was good quality. I did have to do some fiberglass work for front body mounts, and around the tranny. This was like 8-9 years ago so this work may no longer be necessary.

If you want steel, which is what I suggest (I will NEVER use fiber again) I would check out the replitubs from Willys Overland (I think), Rigid steel, and all the other Internet sites. Odds are you will find them cheaper and better then 4WD.

    Thanks for the info.

    Yes, we'll be using steel.
I checked out Willys Overland's site and magazine ads but they don't ever list pricing.
I just have a sinking feeling they're a LOT more than 4WD with all the mods they perform.
Guess I'll break down and call them to get the scoop.

Rigid Steel? I never heard of them. Do you have they're link, possibly?

    Thanks!

Living in the Lou, pretty sure salt is going to be an issue. That is, if you plan on driving in the winter. I do here in So. Iowa and my bumpers are paying the price. I like fiberglass for that reason alone. Sure, it doesn't bend much, but I have backed into a fairly good sized tree in the past and just messed up the paint a bit. I will probably be going with some tube fenders in the future, but glass is forever as long as you are not bashing rocks and rolling a lot.

I bought a steel tub from Willys Overland. With the mods they did, my tub bolted right in place. firewall holes were perfect. Thats the pros.
    The cons:
Took a lot of body work to cover up the warpage and spot welds.
My original hood is about 1/2" wider than the new tub.
The tub was also about 1/2" long, (or maybe the body mounts were in the wrong place) but I had a hard time attaching the fenders and aligning the grill and hood.
You will prob get the same product from 4wd, with exception of hole mods that W.O. does. Allthough necessary, I'm not sure paying them to do the mods was worth it. I may have been able to do that myself.
Overall, I'm pleased with the results. I't appears 99% identical to the original, The most significant differences from the original are the absence of the embosed JEEP logo on each side and the shifter housing is different shape.
I cut the embosed logos from my old tub and welded them into the new tub.
    Good Luck !

Not sure how the prices compare, but the link below is for a Canadaian company that makes the body tub from marine grade aluminum. They list the prices on the site as well.

    Just a thought.
