Yikes! It's a 24 volt system!

    It has the appearance of a regular 12 volt ignition system. But "looks like" doesn't mean much in reality. Does it have dual batteries? Are they in series or parallel?

    Looks like a generator on there. Would hint at 24 volt.

    I thought generator at first, but it looks like it's actually a hydraulic pump.

    Its an M38A1 tub with the slave cable recess on the passenger side and the over size fuel fill hole. The dash has been changed to civy though.

    Looking at that image from MCScott, it's absolutely NOT an M38A1 engine. It appears to be a six cylinder. Military jeeps only had 134-4 engines.

    No reason to think it would be 24 volt, therefore.

    You're right, but the owner told him it's 24 volt so we're trying to figure out why the owner said that.

    Looks like they morphed more than the body! That generator is from the M38A1 also. The box on the top of the generator and the huge sealed cables coming out of it are what was in the A1. Looks like the PO got in over his head with the electrical on that one. Wonder how many 12V batteries exploded from a 24V charge before he decided to sell? :twisted:

    To me it looks like a pump. The connections look like pipe connections, not the waterproof cable you're talking about. Plus it appears to have a plow frame on the front is another reason I'm thinking pump. Plus the back is rounded not flat like a generator and it doesn't appear to come apart on the rear end.

    Yeah, after a closer look, it looks like the lines come out to a ram on the front. Also looks like the pump line might be connected to the water system????:? Think you're right on that. I was feelin froggy again. Sorry.

    24 V would have a huge voltage regulator mounted down on the frame rail on the passenger side. the tub is an m38a1 tub, and no one will probably argue on that one, so there should be a plate on the passenger floorboard where the 24v regulator lives. also, if the generator is 24v it will have a waterproof screw on type connection on it. there also don't "appear" to be little vent line running into the engine bay for all the miscelanous vents going into the intake... so the engine doesn't look like a milliatary version. but i've been away from my a1 for farr to long to be able to see things clearly right now.

    I don't see anything here that is M38AI except the rear half of the body - the tub with the slave receptacle inset and battery box. Even the grill and windshield, master cylinder, and the motor are all late civilian.

    Looks like the tub got swapped out.

    The military battery box on the cowl being functional and designed for two batteries in series (24v.) may be causing the confusion.

    I agree with this and it looks more like it has a pump and not a generator in the pics. The question I would be asking is where is the alternator/generator. I don't see one at all from the pics, but from what I can see so far it looks like 12v.

    Have you picked it up yet????
