    Hey guys/gals,

Got an axle spline question...on a stock 1955 CJ5, what's the spline count on the carrier end of the rear axle shafts?
    Thanks!

IIRC it's 10... but you better wait until someone else confirms that...

    That's what I remembered too...bummer. I've got a 19 spline Track Lok I guess I won't be putting in it :( .

Seems like and don't hold me to this but you can still use it by using 19 spline axles with it. Maybe Nick will come on and confirm or say it's not so.

Yea, it seems like if I could find tapered Dana 44 axles that are the right length, there shouldn't be a problem. Around here finding a set would be tough...there isn't a CJ in a junkyard within 300 miles of me. Now if the axles from a Scout 80/800 are the same width, I know a yard with about 8 of them in it...
I seem to remember that the scout and Jeep running gear were basically the same, but I could be wrong (wouldn't be the first time!). Any one know for sure?

IMHO the Track Loc isn't worth the effort. Especially the older ones. They have a tendency to break in half and/or wear out. I know I'll catch Hell from someone on this, but if you want more traction, find a Powerlok or a Lock Right. I don't know that there is one made for the 10 spline though. The Scout axles won't fit.

I did say Track Loc didn't I...I ment Power Lok  . When I asked about this carrier before someone said there is a 10 spline version, but it's pretty rare. Guess I'll either have to try and find some 19 spline CJ axles, or try and trade someone for a 10 spline carrier...

You have to be picky about the 10 spline axles you use with a Power-Lock, sometime in mid '56 they changed the spline shape a bit & the earlier splines won't fit into a Power Lock :(. For 6s the change occured at sn 11871.

You need 19 spline axles to run the Powerlock, this is a common item and I would think you could find them from someone or buy them.

If you really get stuck on the axles, try: http://www.jwjeep.com/
    They'll have them. It's a 5 acre wrecking yard that's Jeep only.

an 'old school' swap was to go with the 19 spline axle shafts.

I'm all about old school! Guess I'll keep it on the shelf until I can find some 19 spline shafts or I need to to trade for somthing I need more than a limited slip :) . Right now with my no-drivetrain jeep, there's a lot of things I need more than having both wheels spin.

Just to confirm what's been said, yup, you can put 19 spline CJ tapered axles in a housing that had 10 splines. So find some axles, and put in that Powerlock! Nickmil
