It's alot harder, but much safer to do one wire at a time. I pulled out the whole harness, then put in the new one and had alot of trouble with my voltage regulator, but thats only cause I had a motorola alternator. Pay most attention to the engine compartment and gauges. Everything else is simple. Also, if you want to do a really nice job, slide on a piece of heat shrink tubing, splice the wires together, drip solder over it, then slide the heat shrink down and hit it with a lighter. Its proffesional and looks super impressive. Not to mention it will probably last longer then you. Bonus points for mismatched wire and heat shrink.

If you end up sodering it use small flux core solder you can find it at raido shack. Also if you can find adhesive lined shrink wrap its much better for keeping mosture out.
