    Hey guys/gals,

Anybody know off the top of their head if the M151 clutch friction disk will interchange with the 8.5" disk on an F-head? A guy selling one claims they'll interchange, but I'm skeptical...nothing else that I know will interchange between a MUTT and a Jeep. Anybody know?

    Thanks!

That's what I figured. I couldn't think of a single part that the MUTT and a Jeep have in common...maybe the tires. I was only asking because there's a guy on e-bay selling them starting at $12. He says they'll also fit the M38A1  . Oh well. The clutch that's on the donor motor I pulled is pretty iffy, and I was just trying to save a buck.

A friend of mine had a MUTT...it was one of the DRMO rigs cut into 3 pieces and welded back together. He traded another rig to his dad for it (he'd had it for a lont time, but never did anything with it) We drove it around for a while...until we crawled under it to check it out. Holy crap the welds on that thing were scary!! It looked like one really good bump and the thing would just break into 3 big chunks...and then lots of little chunks as it slid down the road. From up top everything looked fine...the guy that put it together must have used a lot of bondo. I think he ended up giving it back to his dad, and it's still sitting in a shed.

You have to watch those things on ebay when it comes to jeeps, parts etc etc. Either people dont know what is what or are trying to pull the wool over people's eyes. No a CJ2A painted OD is not an army jeep!! Doug

new clutch parts for the t-90 are cheap... you shouldnt mess around with used parts if you dont have to. I just did mine (new pressure plate, new disc, throwout bearing, cable, pilot bushing) for well under 200$. Dont buy rebuilt either... new is only a few bucks more and a lot more reliable. IMHO

Yep...the stuff I was looking at was NOS. Don't bother with used mechanical parts...pretty much never worth it. I've priced a few places and $150 seems about right for new stuff. I'm always trying to save a buck here and there...it adds up. If I had more money to blow, I wouldn't care, but since I don't I try to save where I can. Some things you can find a deal on, some not. I search for NOS M38A1 parts, since there's a lot of interchange with the CJ5 (mine's a '55, so they share a lot of parts). Sometimes they can be found for less than new parts, but not always. When it's cheaper I think it's worth it. I did recently pick up the bracket that holds the clutch and brake pedal shaft to the frame. It's NOS, still in the original Willys box, dated 1953.
