I've got an Offenhauser 4bbl intake on its way via brown Santa. Sorry if this subject is getting beat to death, but was wanting to make sure before I plunk down my cold hard-earned that I'm not back pedaling. Specifically, I'm wanting to know just one thing about this carb, and the other discussions seem to be based on factors that are secondary (pun intended) to me:

On the subject of incline performance alone (forget driveability, MPG, etc), is there anything better for the :v6: than a Truck Avenger? (i.e. Is this carb as good at preventing flooding as the advertising claims it is?)

The TA 470 – let me backup and give a basis for what I am saying.

I have used Edelbrock 500’s and Holley 390’s as 4 bbl carbs on the 225 and 231 for a while. I really like the 500 as I feel it is easier to tune with the rods, springs, and jets and gave good performance wheeling. However, I could never get one to run ‘right’ – they were always to rich so I went with the 390s. I have a whole lot of things I would do to them (needle seats, whistles, jet extensions…) and got them to run pretty good. There was always a little ‘hop’ issue at times where I went on some rocks.

Then the 470 came into my life – it was love at first hill. She ran rich out of the box so I changed jets and power valve. Last summer was my first run with her up in the Mts where I always go so I knew the ‘trouble’ spots with the carb. It just went up without a hiccup and never died once. It was so nice my niece even drove some of the tougher areas that the throttle would have caused problems with in the past and she didn’t have an issue.

IMHO – it is the best 4bbl to run bar none and it is what has stopped me from lookin into FI. Until I find problems, I can not justify the expense (coolness might get me on one in the future).
