    Hey guys/gals,

I've got a 19 spline Power Lok for a Dana 44 of unknown condition sitting on my garage shelf, and I'm trying to decide if I should keep it or not. I'm in the process of thinning out some extra stuff to finance my project. I'd pretty much decided I wasn't ever going to use this thing, but now I'm not sure. How are the road manner of a Power Lok? I've heard they're pretty good, but I've never driven one. This is going to be a tool around town/light off road rig (probably with some original style pizza cutters) so road manners are probably more important than maximum traction. I would probably also have to add the cost of new axle shafts to the install...I haven't had my diff cover off, but I'm guessing I still have 10 spline axles back there.

I know this thing isn't worth a whole lot, but probably enough to pay for a rebuild kit for my T-90. Is it some thing I should hold onto for the future, or sell it for the present?

Power Loks are great for the application you described. I think you can change the side gears from 19 to 10 spline.

I have them front and rear, and road manners are great - hardly noticeable.

But then again for the usage you describe probably not necessary and sounds like bit of work and expense to use.

    I'd sell it...

x2. Got 'em front and rear. You don't notice them until you need them. Sounds like a lot of work, though. Maybe you could find a 19 spline axle complete? Heck, I've got one just sitting here at the house. Too bad you're not closer.

Thanks for the responses guys. Sounds exactly like what I want to run in my D44, but...my '55 is a Jeep-in-a-basket, and such a long way from being road worthy I wouldn't need it for a long time. Maybe I should just sell this one and then try and find another one some day when my Jeep is actually on the road? If my budget wasn't paper thin I think I'd just leave it on the shelf as a "some day", but right now every dollar counts.

If you sell it you'll probably wished you hadn't, always seems to work that way.

They will fit if you can find any. I've been looking for a couple years and still haven't found any. Herm doesn't have any either:( .

I'd keep it as these are getting increasingly harder to come by. They are stronger than a stock case, easily rebuilt, and road manners are decent.
I'd also gather the parts to switch the axles to 19 spline units and do it all at once when you have everything gathered. Just my .02 worth. If you do decide to sell, please post in the classifieds here first. Nickmil

I hate you guys :) . Fine, I'll keep it. I'd convinced myself to sell it, but you're right...I'll wish I hadn't. This was on my list of "always wanted a Jeep with one". The list also includes a PTO winch, and OD. Got the winch, sold the OD that came with the Jeep, and yes I do regret it. I'll get one someday. Might have to wait until it's no longer a Jeep-in-a-basket though  . Thanks for the input...guess I better keep my eye out for pair of 19 spline axles. I don't suppose the shafts out of a Scout 80/800 D44 are the same length are they? Boneyard up north has probably half a dozen with two piece rear axles....Not a single CJ in the whole place though :( .

No, I'm afraid the Scout axles won't work, wrong length. Keep an eye out here though, they come up sometimes. Nickmil
