Has anyone tried this? I looked for some half doors for my latest project but nothing looked good or fit quite right so I decided to make good use of my holiday vacation and build my own hard half doors like the newer CJ7 and YJ's.

I started with 1/2 X 1/2 aluminum square tube and built a wood template /ficture and held one end of the tube while I heated and walked the tube around the appropriate bend. My template was in two pieces so I could bend inside and outside bends. I ruined a few bends before I perfected the correct method. After all the bends were done I welded the frame together. I ground the outside welds smooth and I'll skin it in thin aluminum sheet. Since the sheet is so thin I think I'll countersunk rivet the skins on so it'll be smooth on the outside. Once finished it will smooth out the door opening and fill the 3/4 step where the stock soft top doors go.

I haven't quite figured how I'll latch them but I want to be able to open them from inside and out easily. The nice thing that worked out in my favor is I pretty much lucked out and built them the right size so the soft top will fit perfectly. The stainless hinges will be perm mounted to the door and attached to the body endentaion with countersunk stainless hardware.

Nice job I built mine last summer, but with plywood !

One thing I regret not doing was to get myself a upper portion of a door from a yj and make my half door to fit these, this way I would have had full doors when I wanted and half door also.

Keep up the good work !

Bob, I like that idea! Not too late to make a change. The windshield angle might mess with that plan however.
