Question: did you have to lock the steering column somehow?

The towbar on my jeep is really short... it tracks fine in a straight line, but unless i tie down the steering wheel it will always try to steer opposite of the turn.

When I was younger, I had a nifty tow bar for my VW Bug that attached to the lower tube of the torsion bar suspension on the front of the bug, and it always turned correctly, so I know it can be done.

I've always suspected it was because the tow bar was so dang short on the CJ as to why it tries to steer opposite...

Nope I dont have to tie anything. I got back last night from pulling it 3 hours each way and it did great. No tracking problems at all even on hill sides and mountain roads. It backs fine to , I backed it around gas pumps that morning and done quite a few short backups with it. Length is your friend.

That's what I figured... Now I gotta wrangle up some scrap and add "Lengthen Tow Bar" to my never ending list of jeep chores. :)
