    Hi All,
I appreciate the feedback I have gotten so far and I had some time yesterday so I did a lot of searching on wiring issues here and on other forums. Last night I made some progress with the wiring. Here is where I currently am with it

For testing I ran seperate grounds for the taillights, back up lights and front signal lights using the mounting bolts and running a wire to ground for each of them. Then I found a couple of missing fuses that had been hard wire thus removing the fuse. At the end of the night I now have

    1) Backup lights working. (Missing fuse)

    2) Brake Lights but only if the headlights are off. It appears that the brighter filament is always on and the dimmer when fires when I press the brake.

    3)Left Turn Signal
    -side markers F/R blink
    -both front signal lights blink
    -both tail lights blink.

Is this a bad ground still or something else?

    4) Right Turn Signal
-Right rear tail light only. No front signal.

Any ideas on why the front doesn't blink?

    5)Emergency Flasher.
-All lights except headlights and only with headlights off.

    Is this normal?

    6)Headlights
    -Hi and Lo work. Yeah!!

7)Marker lights and tail lights all work on the first indent on the light switch. Is this normal?

    Any help is appreciated.

    Mike

    2) bright filament is your brake/turn filament; dim is running lights
    3) sounds like your 4way flash circuit; could be feedback thru the t/s switch
    4) wiring problem; check for power at the lamp
    5) all should flash regardless of h/l on/off
    7) yes; that is the parking light position

You could still have ground issues
but I would check the individual wires for power and when they are supposed to have it.
I would attack one problem at a time, starting with the wires at the turn signal switch.

I don't know what kind of Jeep you have, but my intermediates do not have flashing side markers. My '74 wiring diagram shows them as parking/marker lights only. I think someone may have tried to be cool and hook them into the circuit and caused some problems. I would start with the side marker light wiring and go from there.

Agree 100%, have had my 72' since new and marker lights are as noted. Should wire them as factory intended. Could get confusing on the road to another driver. All my wiring diagrams reflect above as well! Good luck, take their advice and try to work one item at a time and not get side-tracked.
I just finished my Jeep, I installed a 12 circuit Hot-Rod harness and also rewired so the ignition (Alt) light in the cluster and fuel gauge wiring all as original. I also included "external regulator" additional wiring for my Premier Welder's 160 ampere Alternator and dual (Optima Yellow-top's) cockpit control and dash controls for my Warn 8274 winch (yeah, I know dash winch control probably will never be used, but I like the "ARM" switch for remote tag extension as well as the dash control if needed).
Best of luck with your wiring installation. Make sure to PLEASE add additional ground jumpers at all body joints. This helped my 72' a lot, even though I ensured a great connection when fender and tub connection bolts replaced! Gunner :flag:

I think your mis-interpiting the wiring diagram, they clearly show them as wired to flash in this schematic. :(Note: this is for the front only, the rear are just marker lights. )

A simplified version of this is shown here:

Here you can see the factory harness complete with factory duct tape over the splices:

Here is a little show how and why they flash:

Any time something turns off when another device is turned on is a sighn of a bad ground. No part of the headlights run through the TS switch so if there is a problem with turning the headlights on then the only common point would be the ground. Since you ran new ground wires and from post on other site you established they were OK then the problem may be in the bulb itself were the base connection is broken.

Well got it all sorted out. Turns out that I didn't have a good ground for the turn signals on the grill. I ran a wire from the engine to body ground on the firewall to the grill and this resolved alot of the problems. I also found a fried wire in the harness that was causing some shorts and the biggest problem wasa bad connector that ran to the rear harness. Cleaned that and taped it tight and problems are all gone. Thanks to all that helped and thanks to John for the cool diagrams.
