I am rebuilding my front end on a 73 CJ5 with a D30 axle. The hub, spindle and bearings were all ruined by excessive rust and are being replaced. I had to take a torch to cut the original apart so I could get the break plate. NAPA lost the wheel cylinder and metal pieces that attaches to the ends when I brought my hub assembly there for them to break the hub from the spindle. They charged me $32 for not being able to do a job. Gotta love it.

    I received the following items:

hub assembly with two bearing races
    spindle
    two bearings
    one seal
gasket that goes between warn locking hub body and hub

After looking at the Jeep technical manual, it shows an exploded view with two seals, on inside the spindle and one that goes on the spindle before the inside bearing. Is this correct? I would hate to leave out a seal and find out the bearing wore out because I did something wrong.

Also, the manual showed a gasket between the spindle and the brake plate. I don't have one so I just smeared RTV and bolted the parts on with the gasket. After tightening down the bolts, the RTV oozed out slightly looking like it should make a nice seal.

If anyone know of a web site that cantains an exploded diagram of the brake and wheel hub assembly? I want to see if other views contain a better view than the one in my shop manual. Thanks

There are a couple seals on the axle. One is rubber, one chamfered either phenolic or brass. Then inside the spindle is a little roller bearing and a small seal. Then there is the inner wheel bearing with a seal. The hub seals the outside. That was off the top of my head, but I am pretty sure that is right?
