rewiring with forethought

    FWIW - your dash might be setup to tilt out by removing all of the bolts you can see on the face of it. There *should* be (at least my ECJ's have been this way) two bolts on the bottom backside of the dash, pointing sideways. Leave these bolts and it should tilt out on them, assuming there's no full roll cage in the way.

    Thank you, I can not tell you how long it took me to lay that out and then wire it up. But that was done over a period of a month or more of on and off work. The wire alone took 4 hours one evening.

    Solder can wick up the braided copper wire this makes the otherwise flexible braided wire into a stiff stick prone to breakage. So don't flood the joint with solder, just enough to make the joint.

    • Strip wire ends, dip in alcohol
    • Tin wire ends
    • Put heat shrink tube on wire far from the joint (so it doesn't prematurely shrink). Can't count how many times I've forgotten the heatshrink and had to redo it.
    • Dip tinned wire ends in flux
    • Crimp tinned ends into bare metal connector
    • Solder over the seam in barrel connector, solder will wick into the wire.
    • Allow joint to cool, slide heatshrink over joint, shrink with hair drier. I don't use matches or torches because it's too easy to damage the insulation.
