It is a civilian Bantam T3-C. The original Fulton hitch is gone, and the rear sheet metal skirts have been modified. Also, the frame side rails have either been altered or replaced at some point and the springs do not look original (difficult to see in the photo). Unfortunately, the data plate is missing so you will never be able to approximate the date of manufacture, but based on the position of the date plate holes, it is probably not a '46. Could be anything from 47-53.

The rear frame looks funny to me - under the tailgate, but I'm curious what's making you think the side rails aren't original?

It'd be a pain in the keester to replace just the side rails, IMHO -- the way the tub and frame get welded together and all. Rusted side rails are what led me to a complete new frame.

Looks like the panels on either side of the tailgate have been cut off at the bottom. Moine continue down and have round holes cut in them for the tail lights. Those tail lights are aftermarket and square rather than the original round style. Maybe why the mod was made ( so the lights are entirely visible). Side boards are not original but very usable. Overall it appears to be a nice trailer. Is it yours? If not, it should be.:)

As much as I scrounge and watch the local farms around here I NEVER see one just sitting unused. The ONLY places I see these trailers are at early jeep get togethers, and most are pretty much re-done with a 1k asking price... I want a fixer upper like my jeep. R)

Sure wish I had only spent $1K on mine....

If I had more than one tree I'd build me a set of those for hauling leaves in the fall...

The rear frame member looks odd to me as well. The reason I think something was done to the side rails is the lack of any steel at the front of them. If you look at some photos of Bantam civilian trailers you will see that the front edge of the side frame rails is finished either with a piece of rectangular steel that covers the end of the frame rail or a larger angled piece.

I see that on the passenger side of the trailer. Camera angle might be hiding the other.

Here is the Funton and rear of mine. The tailgate hinges are toast though.
Bantams only had a left side taillight.
