After having way too much fun welding ~30 smaller holes closed in SSDutch's body, I'm getting down to having to do something about the holes under the driver's seat where the original gas tank was. I also have some rust-through right behind that where the front section of floor meets the floor riser panel - both on the driver's side and inside the toolbox on the passenger side.

Structurally the body is sound yet - I just want to close up these holes to seal the tub up.

I'm considering just "gluing in" some sheet metal patches using body panel adhesive, but I've never tried the stuff before.

Are the adhesives going to work on old pitted sheet metal (cleaned up as best I can with a wire-wheel)?

    Any experience out there?

I have no personal experience using it, but I worked with some of the vendors testing it. The metal has to be clean. It adheres as good as welding done correctly. In crash tests we did, it performed as well as a factory welded panel. They were using new panels on used vehicles. There were something like 3 vendors several years ago.
