    Hi guys,
I've posted this question on the Jeepstercommandoclub.com forum, but no one there has been able to help me. Since the Jeepster and the CJ5 share the same front frame, I was hoping you guys may be able to help!
    Here goes...
Has anyone used a PTO winch on a Jeepster (or CJ) with Saginaw steering? I've got a Ramsey PTO winch meant for a Jeepster, but I think it was meant for one with Ross steering. Why? Because it looks like the Saginaw steering box is going to hit the power take off on the winch. Here's a picture of mine showing the problem. As you can see, there's just not enough room for the steering box to mount beside the winch. Right now it's just hanging below the winch.
Anyone have any experience with this?
If I have to, maybe I'll find a way to mount the winch high on top of the frame using some box tubing.
Pictures of your PTO set up would be great!
    Thanks guys,
    Nathan

ran into the same problem.to fit right you must take the winch apart and reverse the shaft to come out the other side of the winch, you must remove the side cover, remove the four bolts on each end of the worm shaft and remove both covers remove the bull gear, remove the set screw in the worm gear then slide the input shaft out and put in the opposite way.the shaft will now be pointing forward, put back together.now put winch back on.the output shaft will be on passenger side, you will have to route the pto shaft by using some u-joints and pillow block bearings to move the pto drive shaft to the passenger side of the vehicle.this is the best way i have found. hope i ex plained it good enough maybe someone else has a better and easier way.

thanks for giving your advice! I've been afraid that that was the solution. I wonder if adding u-joints will weaken the system. I know a u-joint is a weak point compaired to a strait shaft. How much load is on this shaft anyway?
I've been thinking about mounting the winch higher (over the frame rail), but I'm afraid the shaft angle will be too great (more than 15 degrees).
I'd love to hear any other options!
    Thanks guys,
    Nathan

I run a Koenig PTO winch with Saginaw steering on mine. The drive is on the driver's side of the vehicle. In my avatar you may be able to see the winch is off center towards the passenger side. Had to do this to clear the steering. Take a measurement of your Winch, might be able to move it over enough to put saginaw steering in. If not, you might look at Herm Tilford's (Hermtheoverdriveguy.com)'s Reverse Ford steering box system. It mounts behind the grill and may work for you and still give the clearance you need for the PTO winch. There are also narrower winches out there, may be able to narrow yours up to work a little better. Nickmil

    Nickmil,
thanks for your help! I'd love to see a picture of the way you have your winch installed, but I can't make it out on the small avatar. Do you have a bigger picture I can zoom in on?
    Enjoy the day,
    Nathan

Here's a pic of a Koenig on my CJ-6. The frame is about a 1 1/2" farther apart because it's a Scout Terra frame but gives the general idea. You can just see the top of the steering box under the support on the driver's side. Kinda went overkill but didn't want any mount issues. I'll try and get some of the CJ-5 tonight.

    Nickmil,
Wider is better! I wish I had the frame width to fit both, but I don't. It looks like the Koeing winch may also be a bit more compact than the Ramsey.
I think I may have to mount my winch high and cut into the grill and radiator support for the winch shaft. I can't afford to buy a new steering box, I'm already WAY over budget!
Thanks for all the help guys, if you have any other ideas please keep them comming!
