Just like every other part or accessory out there, theses braces are or only available for '76 and up.

Question: Do I need one for my '74 w/power steering, shackle reversal, and 33's? If so, can one of the '76+ units be adapted??

    Thanks!

I don't know if you can adapt one of the later supports, but you can buy just the hardened clamp that goes around the snout on the steering box and fabricate the rest of the brace. These guys have the clamps. It's the only place I've found them without buying the rest of the brace.

    nickmil In mothballs.

I built my own using a piece of thick wall tube, old connecting rod, and a clamp that fit around the opposite frame rail. Works great on the Race Jeep. Nickmil

As a plus, the steering box bracket is designed much better on your '74 than on the 76 and later. I wouldn't worry about it with 33" tires.

    what about 35"s?

With 35's on an intermediate with power steering I would start to consider putting one on. That is where I am at right now. And I am probably going to put one on within the year. My jeep saw long term off road abuse with 33's, and I never had any problem.

The steering sector bracket is strong but the frame isn't. I've pulled a bolt through the crossmember and cracked the frame where the steering attaches but the bracket and sector are still in one piece on my 74.

I agree, the frame is weak up front and need reinforcing. I lined the outside of the frame back to the bend, then topped with 3/16" plate that was bent and bolted that to the front bumper. Also have a piece of 3/16" diamond across the top of the frame rails that the winch mounts to. All of this ties together the front end.
