Floor Panel Replacement

    Anybody ever buy the front floor panels for an early CJ5 from Classic Enterprises? (I'm looking at a '56) How did they fit? How much of the floor do they replace? Any pics of your installation? How much, if any did you have to modify them to make them fit? Would you recommend them or another source? With a brake and a bead roller/flanger at my disposal, I'm trying to decide whether to replace just the rusty parts of the floors or to buy the whole panels from C-E. Any info is appreciated. This is the next part of my project, so I gotta make a decision rather quickly. Thanks.

    Hey Tom, did ya call Jeep Panels Plus? I've heard good things about them too. That's where I'm going to get my rear floor from. Mom and pop operation, handmade in the USA. I understand they're a popular source for the G503 crowd.

  3. I bought floor panels from JC Whitney (I have to learn everything the hard way) and they didn't fit, not even close. Sent them back and fabbed my own from 16ga steel. Bought a sheet metal break at HF for about $50 and worked great.

    Dave,

    I have a set of JCW lightweight panels that don't fit on the shelf in my garage, too. They wouldn't refund my money because "The warranty period was up." I'm done buying parts from them. Fool me once, shame on you.Fool me twice, shame on me. By the way, whatever happened to the vendor comments section of the forum? It appears to have gone away.

    I bought front floors and rear floor from Jeep Panels Plus, and all I can say is that they are great! Fit was right on. materials are the right gage Rear floor just about dropped in place. Customer service was great, but do call. The web site is not even close to working right. Their prices are fabulous too. I would most definitely go back for more.

    How far up the toeboard did the front panels go? Did the have the proper cutout for the tranny cover to bolt up to?

    toolbox If you get bored, I've got the projects.

    If I had *any* spare time at all I'd volunteer to put something up for them...I'm not that good at web design, but even I could do better than that. It's horrible. When I priced out the parts I needed to repair my tub, they were by far the best though. I e-mailed them for a price sheet, and I got one in the mail about a week later. I plan on using them when I do my '55 as well.

    This is the same panel I got ftom Krage. Worked out pretty well. I had a friend of a friend do the install on it, and he got it off a smidge, but it works well. I had to do a little fab work to get the panels to line up correctly. Next time I'll do it myself or get some one I can gripe at. The only problem is these do not come with the panel for the master cylinder access. Better save the old one if you have it.

    I will have to look as to how far up they went, but it was a fair piece. The cut out was right, you drill the holes, though. Also, since it seems to me that they said that they often press and roll the parts after they take an order, you might be able to get them to do some extra distance somewhere, if you needed cut and fit. Just my opinion, but It could not hurt to ask.

    I've talked to them on the phone a couple of times, and they seem like good folks. They're just not computer-savvy, and I guess they were burned by whoever they hired to do the website. They sounded pretty frustrated about it, and I'm even more clueless about such things. I can surf 'em, but I can't build 'em.

    So, am I correct in saying they have the little downward flange around the tranny hole and that I have to cut the square holes for the cage nuts that hold the tranny cover? Or do you mean I have to cut the clutch and brake pedal holes? And do they go all the way back under the floor riser panel?

    they go back to the riser. you drill the holes for the cage nuts. don't recall about the clutch & brake holes, don't think I went that far up with mine. also, you cut out for M/C access cover.

    Ron,

    I'm already figuring out how to modify the rorisserie to hold just the firewall and cowl of the '63 I'm going to weld in. You sure get spoiled working on the bottom of a tub while standing up.

    Sometime later this summer, I'd like to get the steel together and buy me a cheapo HF cutoff saw, then I'd like to come over and tack the pieces together using your whirlymajig as a pattern, and your expertise as a coach. Then I'll drag it all home and weld everything together with my own welder (or burn holes in everything, whichever comes first). Would that be OK?

    I used Classic panals. I replaced the front floor panals, front floor supports, and the traverse ledge support. I was very happy with the quality and fit.

    If you need to make the square holes for the nut plates, just drill a 3/8" hole and file it square with a small square file.
