I'm fed up with the electric oil pressure gages, wrong senders wrong gages. I'm thinking about going with a mechanical oil gage but I'm worried about the plastic tube breaking and pumping all my oil out. Whats your guy's opinion on this?
    Thanks

I have my plastic tube run inside an old brake line I had laying around. Since then I've seen copper tubes at every FLAPS. Next time I put in one of those lines, I'm using the copper tube.

Copper if your worried. Just do your fittings tight on the nylon and avoid sharp edges.

I prefer the copper tubing for oil-pressure. Just make sure to use a rubber grommet for the hole in the firewall and its also a good idea to run the copper tubing through a length of washer-fluid hose (or similar) to help stop vibration.

My understanding is that copper will vibration harden and eventually crack. One way to help with this is to put a full 360 degree loop in the line. Not a bad idea to put the whole thing in a washer hose or some such as mentioned above.

On the ships, with tons of vibration, we make certain to have a loop. The loop should be just before going into the gauge. Also, no sharp bends or creases. Tubing bender with as gentle of curves as possible. Hydraulic lines / fittings are certainly overkill in regards to strength and have the added bonus of flexibility. Crown made some custom brake lines for me, John there will put whatever fittings you want on either end, whatever length you want and whatever color.
