'72 Commando brake line size

I have a couple of Sears gift cards and since I am about to tackle the brakes on my Commando I thought I'd get a flaring tool and a tube bender with the cards.

My question is, what size are the brake lines on the '72 Commando? 3/16", 1/4", or 5/15". Some of the benders can be used on several sizes.

    Thanks,

The lines are probably 1/4 in. Most are.
More important to you, at this point, is to buy a quality flaring tool. It has to be capable of making double flares. Single flares will usually be ok on a gas or vacuum line, but brake lines must have double flares, to be safe and legal. My flaring is made by Imperial Eastman Corp. and it flares 3/16 thru 5/8 size tubing. It will double flare 3/16, 1/4, 5/16 and 3/8.
    I hope this is helpful.

Thanks for the information. The flaring tool I was looking at will do the double flare but I think the max diameter was 9/16". Of course they don't stock them in our local store.

Brake lines are dirt cheap already made up, just measure and buy. Last 3 I bought were $12 Canadian for all 3. Nice to have the gear anyway, but I prefer to buy them premade if possible.

Yeh, I have to agree with Paul on this one. Premade lines are nice. I only make them when I have no choice.
